The International Monetary Fund (IMF) reported that while Israeli economy was well prepared for the worldwide recession, all is not well. In the population groups of Haredi men and Arab women, respectably, only 40% and 20% work and typically earn less than their contemporaries of the same jobs, decreasing potential economic growth, reducing GDP growth. The report warns that the minor drag presently caused by these groups will become a macroeconomic problem in the next 30 years as these two groups are expected to represent about 50% of Israel’s population. In order to avoid future economic troubles, the IMF says Israel should incorporate these groups into the work force on a greater scale.
