More than a year has passed since the start of the Egyptian revolution and yet protestors are still violent and the situation remains volatile despite the efforts of the interim SCAF (Supreme Council of the Armed Forces) government. This has caused many Egyptians to call for the military to surrender complete leadership to the citizens, an act that equates to allowing a large bank to fail during the 2008 economic crisis.The military has become so entrenched in Egypt’s economy that, contrary to the popular mood for drastic change, only a gradual departure of its presence would allow for stability to be upheld.
