Netanyahu has received over 70% of the votes during the Likud party’s primaries on Tuesday, confirming his leadership over the party. “The real Likud won today. We proved that our strength lies in our unity. We will continue to show responsible leadership and take the lead in education, the economy, and security for the sake of all citizens in the State of Israel,” the Prime Minister said. ”We are facing great challenges that no other country faces, and I believe that together we shall overcome them, through the Likud.”
There was a relatively strong showing for Netanyahu’s only rival, Moshe Feiglin, a hardline candidate popular among settler communities. ”According to the results we are getting, we did something that was almost impossible…more than one quarter of registered Likud members voted for me and for a Jewish state,” Feiglin said.
