A recent poll by The Doha Debates, is a good indicator of two things: 55% of Syrians do not want Bashar Al-Assad to resign and western medias do not believe this information to be important enough to be published or even discussed. The Doha Debates is funded by the Qatar Foundation which in turn is governed by the Qatar’s royal family who are strong advocates of the anti-Assad rhetoric. The poll also shows us that while most Syrians want Assad to stay, they also want him to push for free elections in the near future. Jonathan Steele, the author of this article describes the silence of western media as “dramatic”.
