Israel ‘breaks settlement building records in 2011′
Peace Now’s annual report on building in East Jerusalem and Palestinian West Bank, showed a reported 20% increase in settlement construction in 2011, setting a new high of building records. According to the report, 35% of the 1,850 houses were built beyond aspiration barrier which is under construction, on lands expected to be labeled as Palestinian areas. In response to the report, a spokesperson for the Netanyahu government sighted that Israel had exercised “restraint”, and pointed to the ten month settlement building freeze of 2010, which the Netanyahu government agreed to under pressure from the United States and the Quartet.
